UPDATE: Location and time for tonight's practice

Hey Cupcakes and Cupcake Lovers!

Here's the latest update for tonight's practice!

TIME: 6pm. If you can't make it early, let us know at CutthroatCupcakes@gmail.com, and we will keep an eye out for you.

LOCATION: We have outgrown the small circle where we used to skate. So we've moved less than a mile away -- just up the street actually!

Take East Mission Road to Mission Hills Court.
On the right are two ramps very close to each other. Take the SECOND ramp.
The skate park will be immediately to your left.
Continue up the hill and through the parking lot.
We are in the back parking lot, next to the soccer fields.

Cutthroat Cupcakes at the Oceanside Turkey Trot

Happy belated Thanksgiving, and happy Black Friday!

Early Thanksgiving morning, 5 Cupcakes and 4 of our loyal fans met at the Oceanside civic center to take part in the 6th annual Oceanside Turkey Trot. Decked out in our stylish headbands and team shirts, the nine participants joined over five thousand other runners and walkers in the 5 mile and 5 kilometer races.

Several of us are already planning on running in the Carlsbad 5000. We will keep you informed so you can join us!

We hope you all had a great time with your friends and family today. And if it's your thing, enjoy all the super sales!

Happy Monday Derby fans!

I hope you had a great weekend.  We ran into a bit of a snag with the garage sale fundraiser, and had to postpone it until further notice.  Stay tuned for updates, we will be back again soon!

So far, we don't have anything special planned this week, just three opprotunities for good, sweaty, tough training at our regularly scheduled practices.  If you are coming to see us for the first time, make sure to contact us by email or check our Facebook page in case of inclement weather.

This Saturday - Garage Sale Fundraiser!

Hello again from Cupcake Land!

We had a great turnout at the Vista Farmers Market last weekend.  We wanted to thank all those that helped us out, especially Heavenly Layers for the yummy cupcakes, and Little Cakes Cupcake Kitchen in Vista for donating 2 gift cards for our raffle.

The weekend is upon us already -- and we're at it again!  On Saturday, your favorite derby girls will be in Carlsbad, raising money to find a home.  All the information is below, with a map after the jump.  If you have ANY questions, would like to donate, or just say hi, you can email us at CutthroatCupcakes@gmail.com.  We hope to see you there!!

Weekly Update 10/24 - 10/30

Hi Cupcakes and Friends!

Here's the latest for the coming week... it's a busy one, so hang on to your skates and let's get started!!  Make sure you catch the brief overview of next week's events after the Vista Farmer's Market entry.

10/25 (Tuesday)

• Practice @ Hollandia Park, 6:45pm - 8:30pm
• It's the end of the month (I know, I said "Already?!" too).  That means it's time for foot practice!  So bring sneakers.  
• Bring your thinking cap too, because if you didn't pass the written test last month, now's your time to shine.  Remember, you will be tested on your knowledge of WFTDA rules and hand signals.

Help Us Feed the Hungry

This month we have been collecting food items for the Jewish Family Service of San Diego.  Their Hand Up Youth Food Pantry helps people get back on their feet.  Not only do they provide food to thousands of San Diego’s hungry, but they include case managers at distribution sites to help people become aware of the vital services offered at Jewish Family Service.  These programs are available to the entire community.   In the past year, Hand Up has provided 9,070 people with 33,177 food bags totaling more than 208,322 pounds of food to hungry people.

The Hand Up Youth Food Pantry delivers food to 11 locations throughout San Diego County. Food is distributed once a week at St. Paul’s Cathedral downtown, once a month at Camp Pendleton and Murphy Canyon Military Housing, and as needed to  Chabad Downtown, Alef Center, Julian Pathways, College Avenue Older Adult Center, Foodmobile, Foothills High School, Turk Family Center, and JFS North County Coastal office.

You can help with their efforts by donating food  The Cutthroat Cupcakes are collecting items that will be delivered to the Food Pantry at the end of this month.  Stop by one of our skate practices and drop of your items.  We are at Hollandia Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm and at Woodland Park Middle School on Saturday mornings from 8 am to 10 am.  We will also have a final collection point at the Vista Farmers Market on October 29th.  Check out Upcoming Events section on this blog for the info about that event! Saturday Morning Derby at Woodland Park Middle School!

We like to get our weekend started off right with a Saturday morning of derby!  We'll be at the Woodland Park Middle School every Saturday morning for some endurance skating.    Use this map to help you find your way!   Look for us at the basketball courts around the back of the school.  We set up the track and get in a good two hours of derby!  Practice runs from 8 am to 10 am.  Don't forget to bring your water!

New to roller derby?  Thinking about giving it a try?  Stop by and see what we're all about and meet some of our skaters.  We're looking for more women who want to join us - and guys too, we need referees and other volunteers.  Skating is a great way to get in shape & have fun!

What's Happening This Week!

Tuesday is our all-league off-skates practice!  Everyone will be doing a full workout off-skates!  If you are thinking about joining us, this is a great time to try it out and get to meet our members.  Just send us an email so we know you're coming.  Practice begins at 6:45 at Hollandia Park.  It's getting dark earlier now, so don't be late!

Saturday Practices Begin This Weekend!

On Saturday, Sept. 24th we'll be holding our first weekend practice!  That makes three days of derby practice per week 'cause we love to skate!  So, if you haven't been able to check out one of our practices, now you have another chance.  We meet at Hollandia Park in San Marcos unless otherwise noted.  Just look for us next to the skate park!  If you're thinking about joining us, but aren't sure what to expect, please email us and we'll give you all the info you need!  We start everyone out with some off-skates training when they first join, so you don't need any special equipment right off.  It's a great workout and a lot of fun!

Roller Derby Garage Sale - Sept. 17th!

We are hosting a garage sale - derby style!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 17th and stop by and pick up some bargains & buy a baked goodie at the bake sale booth!  We'll have a little bit of everything - clothes, books, household items - and more!  All the proceeds will help us to secure a dedicated practice facility.  We've been skating at local parks up to now and, though it's nice to be outside, we will need to move indoors once the weather gets colder & it starts getting dark earlier!  Plus, we want a place to call "home".  Want to make a donation?

Thursday's Practice Info!

UPDATE!! - We will not be meeting at Woodland Park Middle School.  They are having an open house and it's not available.  Please meet at the Hollandia Park location instead.  We will be meeting at the school grounds next Tuesday, so get ready for some endurance skating! 

Thursday's practice will be in a new location.  We'll be at the Woodland Park Middle School basketball courts where we will be setting up a track and working on timed laps and endurance skating!  The basketball courts are located in the back of the school.   Email us for specific directions, or use this map to help you get there!

If you are a new skater and considering coming to a practice, you will be working on some off-skates drills before you begin on-skates training.  Don't worry, it's fun and a great way to build up the muscles you need for derby!  We have a great coach who will be working with all our new skaters.  For off-skates training, please dress comfortably, bring a towel or exercise mat, water bottle - and yourself!  (At this time there are no fees for our practices.)

Practice will begin at 6:45 pm and run until 8:30 pm.  We may be leaving the school grounds to continue practice at the Hollandia Park location after it gets dark, so don't be late!

More Info. About Practices & Location

We are continuing our practices at Hollandia Park in San Marcos.  Currently, practices are held Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm with Saturday morning practice to be added in September!  We meet next to the playground located just north of the skate park.  Here's a map to help you find your way around - click for map.  At this time there's no fee for practices.*

Take a right on Mission Hills Court and turn right at the skate park to the parking lot.

Tonight's Practice Location!

If you are interested in joining our practice this evening, we will be meeting at the skate and sports complex by the Mission Hills High School.  The park is located at 12 E. Mission Ct. in San Marcos. Use this map.  There is a park near the high school just past the hill.  We are meeting at the playground at 6:45 pm.  Bring your gear, including all protective gear, and outdoor wheels.  We'll be taking care of some business items first and then will be doing some skate maintenance info. followed by some on-skates practice.  Hope to see you there!

UPDATE - Off-Skates Training Continues!

We are going to continue with our off-skates training for the next few practices.  We are working on footwork and endurance drills that will help to get you ready to skate.  (We work out on the grass for some exercises, so you might want to bring a beach towel to sit on.)  All levels of skating experience welcome!  If you don't have your gear yet, you have some extra time to get everything you need to get rollin'!  Be ready to start skating on August 11th!  Here's what you will need to bring;

• Quad Skates (no inlines)
• Helmet
• Elbow Pads
• Knee Pads
• Wrist Guards
• Mouth Guard

New Roller Derby Team Forming in North County!

We are a brand new team in North San Diego County!  We're looking for women ages 18 and over to join us and learn to play flat track roller derby!  Off-skates training 'til August, then get ready to roll!   Refs are needed too, so bring a friend and have some fun with us!
